Kingdom in Fractals
The eternal, the Reign of God,
The joining of heaven and earth
Is so close, so frustratingly close:
All of the pieces are there, disjoint
Like a cubist painting,
Like pieces of shattered glass,
Like fractals spread across the sunrise.
Agonizingly close,
Astonishingly beautiful,
But coming into focus
Only briefly
Unexpectedly
Out of the corner of my eye,
An instant of completeness,
Unity, harmony.
And then back to the chaos,
The riot of color,
The broken pieces again.
I want to see the whole picture.
But, alas, it is the way of mortals
To swim in the colors and chaos
And, perhaps, experience the unity
Now and then.
It is enough.
