Why It’s Good to Keep A Cat

Last night I was awakened by a loud noise.
Something crashing.
I’m sure the cats were involved.

I looked around for something broken,
Or knocked down, or out of place, but nothing.

I’ve thought about this – what could have happened?
And the best explanation I can come up with
Is the cats disrupted some sort of
Interdimensional incursion incident.

Now I know what you are thinking:
We are all concerned with Interdimensional Stability, of course,
But who in their right mind would expect
The cats to be responsible for maintaining it?

But hear me out:
Cats possess strength and agility
That defy the laws of physics.
They often talk to, or chase,
Things that we humans cannot see.
They make sounds that seem to come
From the very depths of hell.

So would it really be a big surprise
If it turns out they have powers
To intervene in interdimensional issues?

Cats are soft and pleasant to pet.
They are excellent companions.
And a cat curling up in the small of your back
On a cold winter night
Is pretty close to heaven.

But cats also keep secrets.

If any animal was charged
With secretly protecting the world
From some unrecognized danger,
That would be a cat.

So I say: if a cat hasn’t adopted you,
Consider finding one, or maybe
Let one find you.

Enjoy the cuddles,
Enjoy the company,
And sleep soundly knowing
It’s not just mice they keep out of your house.
